Word of the Year

My word of the year for 2025 is No.

No to doing things I don’t want to do.

No to feeling uncomfortable because of others.

No to not putting myself first.

I think of this, not as a negative, but instead a positive alignment within myself. No doesn’t mean I am cutting others off, I am just listening to my needs first. I can humbly say that I give a lot to others, to keep this possible, I need to nourish myself. I am doing that in 2025 with the word no!

I love starting the new year with outtakes from the past year, and 2025 will be no different. I thought about doing them earlier, starting work before I had finished my festive break. I decided - I am doing them today - because I wanted to. A direct example of saying yes to what I need and no to what doesn’t.

So outtakes, one of my favourite cornerstone posts that I have been sharing for the last seven years, (2023, 22, 21, 20, 19, 18, 17) serve a purpose. I am the first to say that I am not perfect, which is why I post the outtakes, to show you just that. I think the best thing you can do, especially at this time of year is offer yourself grace, and I am doing that by saying no to the things that do not serve me.

So maybe as you scroll through the awkward poses, bad faces, sweary moments, and more, think about ways that you can offer yourself grace in 2025. However it looks, I think there are plenty of ways we can offer ourselves movements of mental nourishment during the ongoing onslaught of the twenty-first century.

It may be a new year, but it doesn’t mean we need to wash out all the good habits we have accrued up to now. Keep the good, and tweak the less good, and together we will go into 2025 imperfectly!
