Coat Season- Annie Hall

Hello and Welcome back to coat season on benpechey.com this is also my Sartorial Inspirations, this month I have looked to the Woody Allen film Annie Hall, starring Diane Keaton and Woody Allen as a couple going through the ups and downs of a relationship. This role (which was written for Keaton), would go on to earn an Oscar for her performance.

The film follows the couple who are somewhat unconventional in their relationship with each other and love. Honestly I am not a massive fan of Allen films, however, the part of this film that I do love is the stying of Keaton. Throughout the film, she plays with Tailoring and fabrics in rich cords and strong silhouettes.

The look I have decided to reference today comes from the middle of the film where Keaton is on stage singing, she wears what looks like a men's evening jacket with a simple red carnation in the buttonhole. For my 2017 version, I have swapped the dinner jacket for an on trend Prince of Wales Jacket and added a monochromatic flower.

Sometimes the plot of a film can be irrelevant but the styling can be so important and influential, the look of Annie Hall is so striking and strong that I had such fun weaving this into my Sartorial Inspirations.

If you are wondering what this Post has to do with Coat Season, well let me tell you. The glorious oversized Prince of Wales Check Blazer is the Jacket Staple this Winter. Championed by mega brands such as Stella McCartney, Tibi and Isabel Marant. Add casual cool to any tee and jeans combo or mix it with black for a twist on tailoring. This jacket has a firm place in Coat Season. I will see you next week, have a glorious weekend everyone...
