Email Marketing Confidence

Writer's picture: Ben PecheyBen Pechey

I get asked by so many, how I stay true to myself, in a world that is actively hostile towards many of us. I have been thinking about it because on many levels I am not sure how I have managed to maintain this.

I was going through my emails, and I realised the answer was right in front of me.

I get so many emails a day, from printers, website builders, SEO experts, Instagram marketers, and so many more, that barge into my consciousness & inbox to offer their services. When I delete and mark it junk, days later they reply, urging for a reply, telling me that I NEED their help. The cycle of deleting their emails goes on and on, I have just deleted two, as I write this.

That blanket approach of being yourself, delivering in a way that suits you, albeit aggressively in the case of email marketers, is something that we can learn from. Now I haven’t gone mad, the approach of the email abuse I get, is that most people will delete it, but a handful will resonate and reply. It means that the right people will respond.

Now by no means do I suggest you embark on a gorilla email war-like campaign, instead I suggest you not change yourself for every person you meet, instead stay true to yourself for the ones that respond to you. I call these your pillars of self, the truths you hold about yourself, that should be unshakable.

Sticking to your pillars means you will create a group of receptive individuals. They can be your community, friends, and customers, and in those ways, you will build a world that responds to and appreciates you without having to bend over backwards for others.

That is what I have done, staying true to myself, and stuck to my guns when it comes to the pillars of self. Looking at it on paper, it's not that revolutionary, or even that hard. It doesn’t revolve around fakery or bullshit, it instead focuses on your own needs and wants.

So have the self-assured focus of an email marketer, and the right people will find you. That is how to stay true to yourself.
