The Look of Love

I’ve been listening to Dusty Springfield a lot recently. Something about her soulful voice has moved me through the cold weeks of 2025 so far.

The song I keep coming back to is 'The Look of Love'. The song is beautiful and explains how we look when we are in love, glow, and bloom.

I’ve been mulling over the lyrics, and looking over content that I have shot recently, and I can see a shift in myself. I think about the Look of Love, and how that can come from within, self-recognition, of being on the right path, of knowing oneself so well.

I see the look of love I have given to myself.

I see the gift of choosing what I want.

I see the goal that pleasure is a priority for me.

I see the joy in myself and recognise it as self-made.

I see myself fully realised, without having to make any parts smaller.

The look of love has shown up for me as an embodiment of how I choose to approach my life. It is a result of learning about myself, asking hard questions, figuring out who Ben is, of considering my own needs in a world that doesn’t put marginalised people anywhere close to first.

I think on a day like today, Valentine's Day, when commercial ‘conventional’ love is celebrated, we should look inward to find and nurture parts of ourselves that need it. So that one day you can reflect on yourself, and see the look of love.
