Many days feel impossible at the moment.
Being trans+ right now is tough - all marginalised people know this, we're sadly not alone - and the spaces we have built communities online no longer feel the same.
With the top three platforms in bed with #47, our safety feels threatened. As a result, so does our validity.
But they can never take away who we are.
It is so easy to be a bigot online, it is so much harder to do what we do online and in person. Most bigots don’t have the backbone to act how they act online IRL, that is true cowardice.
People ask all the time how they can get into activism. Right now, for us, showing up, that is activism. We can use the tools that aim to suppress, to lift ourselves up, to advocate, to educate. That is activism.
It can be disheartening to see content, opportunity, teachable moments, and education not be shown to your audience. But someone will see it, it will have an impact.
We can boost this if we stick together, to have unity in the face of motion that aims to divide us.
Of course, it isn’t as simple as this day-to-day, but through unity, we can rely on each other, and we can carry on the momentum we and those who came before us have fought for.
Being exactly who you are, who you have always been, is powerful. No one can ever take that away from us.
